Pooh Attack

Zoe just recently started playing with her Pooh Bear (thanks Natalie!). For most of the day she was making Bruce Lee noises (I kept on trying to capture it on video but she's more stealth than that) but she finally took out some of her aggression on poor Pooh tonight.

I think I'll sign her up for karate classes when she's a little older. I see potential.

Splish, Splash

For a brief time Zoe went through a phase when she hated getting a bath...until we moved things over to the real bathtub. Now she loves to float in her bath pillow. I mean, who wouldn't?? This thing looks really comfortable!

Happy 5 Month Birthday, Z!

Zoe is officially 5 months old today! Just when I think that it isn't possible for her to get any cuter she surprises me. She is rolling over, smiling, laughing, eating solids and "talking" all the time. Francis and I are both at work now and daycare has been easier than expected. We feel extremely lucky to have such a wonderful, healthy daughter (it's still so weird to say "daughter"!)

Lions, Gorillas and Giraffes. Oh My!

Francis, Zoe and I spent the afternoon at the Santa Barbara Zoo. I usually feel depressed after going to zoo's but it was actually really fun this time around with Zoe. I can't wait until she is old enough to get excited to see the animals...and for the train ride!

Here we are taking the train around the zoo. We weren't sure if it was going to make it back - I think it was on its last leg.



The elephants had one of the best mountain views and the lions were asleep the entire time we were there (they sleep up to 20 hours a day!)

Zoe was wiped out after a couple of hours and she happily passed out in her stroller.

I have a feeling we'll be visiting the zoo often - especially now that we have an annual family pass (thanks Mimene and Fanfan).

Carrots - Part Deux

If at first you don't succeed...try, try again.

Zoe loves carrots now! I think she changed her mind after I told her that it was good for her complexion (is that for real or is that something my mom used to tell me to eat my carrots?) But she decided to get it all over her face for good measure.

....like her first taste of "real" food?

I think it's clear that she prefers to hit the bottle.

Busy Bees

We've been quite the busy little bees these past few weeks.

We had planned to stay in Christmas Eve and have our first holiday together as a family but things did not go exactly as planned. Our day started off great, we went out to breakfast and took Maya for a swim at Butterfly Beach. Here is Zoe enjoying her Christmas Eve breakfast:

By mid-day, Francis was experiencing horrible abdominal pains and eventually had to go to the emergency room. Turns out he just caught a "bug" (whatever that means) and after some anti-nausea medication and fluids he was sent home. Total bummer but I'm glad he was OK.

We drove to Bakersfield the next day to be with Wayne, Natalie, Shannon and McKenzie on Christmas day. Wayne cooked an amazing feast - who knew he was a chef! Zoe did great....she got a lot of presents but was really only interested in the wrapping paper.

And although Zoe's been rolling over for quite some time now, we finally caught her doing it on camera! Check it out:

We came back to Santa Barbara and welcomed the Parra's to town! Trevor, Erica and Gavin stayed with us for a few days before heading back home to South Carolina. It was so great to finally spend time with them again. It had been way too long. Gavin was totally enamoured with Z and kept on asking where "baby Zoe" was. Unfortunately, I ended up getting pretty sick (a bad cold) while they were here but I powered through it.

Finally, my parents came to visit on New Year's Eve with my aunt and uncle, Lilou and Jean-Luc, from France. They stayed with us for 3 fun-filled days. We went to an amazing dinner at Opal on NYE, played Wii every night and enjoyed the great Santa Barbara weather. Zoe definitely got her french fix with everyone in the house.
