Camping at Lake Casitas

I am so far behind on the blog posts it's a little embarrassing. So...here I am finally blogging about our camping trip to Lake Casitas, from July 8th weekend. Yikes.

The good: The weather was amazing. We had been getting Santa Barbara's infamous "June gloom" so it was nice to escape to somewhere with sunny skies. There are too many campsites to count at this campground which means that there was plenty of occupancy and every campsite area had a newly constructed kid's playground! We couldn't keep Zoe in our campsite, she had so much fun on the monkey bars and slides.
Maya was able to run around leash free for the majority of the time since the rangers didn't patrol the campgrounds very often (more on that later). The other great thing about this campground is the Water Adventure Park! It's a kids' paradise - it has all kinds of water slides, a lazy river, rain machines, water jungle gym, etc.

The bad: Zoe cut her fingers literally 10 minutes before we were going to leave for the water park. Being the little drama queen that she is, she cried as though they had been completely cut off. We put a couple band aids on them but that didn't help. All day she was holding her hand up like it was broken and she would hold things under her arm instead of having to use her fingers. It was kind of funny until we brought her to the water park. Forget about getting those precious little fingers in the water. We stayed for about 45 minutes, just long enough for everyone to give us dirty looks about our crying baby. Here is a picture I got of her and Francis before the breakdown. The one downside of camping here is that although the weather is perfect for it, you can't swim in the lake, unless you're Russian (also more on this later).

The ugly: The SNORER. I will only refer to him as the SNORER because, really, there is no better way to describe him. Francis and I head to bed on Friday night only to realize that the loudest snorer in the world is sleeping in the site right next to ours. No doubt that this guy had a serious medical issue. To make a long story short, I ended up going to sleep in the Highlander at 2:30 in the morning. So the next day we move our stuff to a more secluded site. We think we have it all figured out and we are ready for a nice, relaxing evening (see how nice and relaxed we look here...) But, oh no. A van of 10 Russian guys roll up to the site above us and decide to have their bachelor party that night. The debauchery went on from 6pm to 6am. Again, no exaggeration. There were bb guns going off, bottles being smashed, Russians walking through our campsite (rude!) and they decided to go skinny dipping in the lake at 4am. It sure would have been nice to have seen a Ranger enforcing some rules. Oh, did I mention there was also a separate girl fight around 3am? Yeah.

We were all pretty tired heading home. Here are my 2 girls crashed out on the drive back. Needless to say, I'm not sure if we are going to camping there again anytime soon. :)
